Irish car owners to be offered €8,500 EV grants in new first come, first served scrappage plan

Minister for Transport Darragh O Brien announced a new pilot EV scrappage scheme yesterday, and it's big news for anyone still driving an older petrol or diesel car!

Under the new scheme, drivers who scrap a vehicle over 13 years old and switch to an electric car will receive a €5,000 scrappage grant. On top of that, the existing €3,5000 SEAI grant for new EV’s still applies. Meaning drivers could save up to €8,500 in total when making the switch.

The scheme opens for applications on July 1st, and is backed up a €10 million fund, with grants paid out on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you’ve been on the fence about going electric, this could be the nudge you’ve been waiting for. Get in touch today with our award-winning teams at any of our showrooms in Kildare, Naas, Tullamore or Carlow and we would be delighted to help you make the switch and find the perfect EV for you.
